Wood Rock Band Drum Mod
May 11, 2008 | Leave a Comment
We have seen some cool mods of a Rock Band drum kit, but this one is sticks down the most impressive yet. The builder/author over at edrums.info has provided detailed photos with instructions if you want to have a go at making your own. Be sure to check out the site for other DIY tutorials as well. Really good stuff.

Drums Coming to Guitar Hero IV?
April 21, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Looks like Rock Band is rattling some nerves over at Activision, maker of Guitar Hero. According to Bobby Kotick, Activision’s CEO, the fourth iteration of the seminal music game will include other instruments, even drums. No word on what the kit will look like, but we’re hoping for an improved kick pedal at the very least. And what the hell will they call the game now—Instrument Hero?
Procrastinating With the MiniDrumPro

I didn’t want to be this entertained by a simple drumming game, but as my southern-fried grandfather used to say, “Want in one hand, shit in the other, and see which one fills up first.” So poop hand and all, I wasted a good many minutes of my life today tapping out the basic beats in the MiniDrumPro. The game’s rhythms are color coded (a la Rock Band) and are played by pressing keys on the keyboard. Stupid good fun that should be cake for all you experienced thumpers.
Rock Band for the Wii…

Is on the way, and Joystiq has the answers to nine nagging questions. More important, though, the site snagged a pic of the wii’s virginal-white drum kit. Try not to slobber too much:

Kevin Pereira Plays Drums With Coheed and Cambria

And it’s all thanks to Rock Band.
For those of you not familiar with the “cable television darling,” Pereira is the cohost of Attack of the Show and apparently a rabid Coheed fan (who isn’t really?). He wrote a piece about how playing Rock Band can actually make the gamer a real drummer and got the chance to put his skills to the test by playing with C&C. Check out his tale here, along with a video segment of his performance. Chris Pennie comes on camera about two minutes in. Love his face when Pereira pretty much pulls off the triplets.
Real Kick Pedal Mod for Rock Band

Finally, finally, finally, it has been done—a bona fide kick mod for Rock Band. It’s called the Omega pedal, and it’ll be manufactured by Steradian Technologies, a company heretofore known for “professional grade” laser tag gear. $74.95 gets you what looks to be a tricked out Pearl P-120P (which in its original incarnation can be had from Amazon for 50 bucks). The website says the e-stomper is scheduled for a March release, so assuming Pearl’s lawyers don’t get involved, we got only two weeks to go.
[update: The site is also peddling the Twin Rocker ($24.95), an attachment that allows for Rock Band double kicking. Full review after we’ve had time to change our shorts.]

Double Kick Mod for Rock Band
February 11, 2008 | Leave a Comment
This isn’t a mod for a real double pedal, but if you actually manage to decipher the chicken-scratch schematic, you’ll be the only drummer on your block who can play Rock Band with both feet. Two small steps for drummerkind.

Forget what we said about the double kicks. This guy’s source code might offer some hope. Post a clip if you have any success.
Play Drums on a Wii

Got some programming skillz along with your beat-making abilities? If so, check out this guy’s source code for turning the Wii into a virtual drum kit. Can’t see this working too well for double kick riffs, but it’s got to be a hell of a lot more fun than playing Fishing Master.

Full Kit Mod for Rock Band

Well, that didn’t take long. Only a week ago, one dude modded a real kick pedal for Rock Band, and now some super dude has done it for a real kit. Looks like you still have to play hi-hat patterns on one of the drums, but this is definitely an improvement over the game’s standard drum controllers.
