More Gil Sharone Info

September 1, 2008 | Leave a Comment

So is Gil Sharone really leaving Dillinger Escape Plan? Um, maybe. DEP guitarist Ben Weinman said today:

He didn’t leave and we didn’t kick him out. He will be busy though working with his other band [Stolen Babies] a lot over the next year so I am talking to other dudes both for Dillinger possibilities and just for me to play with on other creative projects. We still may be touring and writing with Gil though. Kinda in the air. No big drama though or anything.

Gil Sharone Leaving Dillinger Escape Plan?

August 29, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Metal Hammer is reporting that Gil Sharone might be vacating the DEP throne. The band hasn’t confirmed or denied the possibility yet, but if that rumor wasn’t eye-stopping enough for you, then check this one out: Raanen Bozzio, son of none other than uberthumper Terry Bozzio, is at the head of the line to take over Dillinger drumming duties.

We’ll keep you posted as the breakup details become available. Unless we’re busy looking for more pictures of a scantily clad Daisy De La Hoya.

Jason Bonham Working on New Zeppelin Material?

August 25, 2008 | Leave a Comment

There is a god, and she is merciful. Or maybe just a prick tease. We’re not exactly sure yet, but it does appear that Jason Bonham has been jamming a little with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, which can mean only one thing—Led Zeppelin reunion! Bonzo’s boy said:

I’ve been over a couple of times with Jimmy and John Paul just trying to do some new material and writing….So I don’t know what it will be but it will be something. I mean this is something that I always wanted to do but trying to predict what it will be at the moment…all I know is I have the greatest pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and try and work on some new material, so it’s been fantastic in that aspect.

Tommy Dating Daisy?

August 19, 2008 | Leave a Comment

The drumming-love rumor mill needs no other grist than Tommy Lee. He’s currently being linked to Daisy De La Hoya, the runner-up for Bret Michaels’ heart on Rock of Love 2…which interestingly enough is the very show that Lee bashed not long ago. As we wait for The National Enquirer to deliver the details of their burgeoning romance, take a minute (or 15 minutes) to enjoy some pics of the delightfully tattooed Daisy.

Tommy Lee vs. Criss Angel?

July 6, 2008 | 1 Comment

We have absolutely no inside info on this latest bit of gossip…but when did that ever stop DIY reportage?

Some celebrity blogs are reporting that Tommy Lee was a no-show at Pamela Anderson’s birthday bash in Las Vegas this weekend. The two recently reunited as cuddlebugs, so Lee’s absence does seem somewhat odd, though not entirely damning given that he and the rest of the Crue guys are super occupied with Cruefest and their new album. But how to explain these pics from WireImage of Pam getting cozy with Criss Angel? Man, we’re not even going to try. Just get ready for the shit slinging and fist swinging.

Leaked Tracks From Chinese Democracy?

June 22, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Nine whole tracks from Axl’s long-awaited Chinese Democracy were reportedly leaked a few days ago. The copyright cops took down the MP3s pretty quickly…but not before the inevitable and blessed YouTube clips started to appear. We’re not sure who’s playing drums on the leaked versions (Josh Freese, Brain?), but despite all probability, the songs are actually pretty intriguing. And some of them might even be good. We need a few more beers just to make sure.

Zildjian Pitch Black Cymbals

June 16, 2008 | 8 Comments

We just cracked open our July issue of DRUM! and got to wondering about what some folks at Pearl’s drummer forum have already been asking for days now: what the hell is up with Zildjian’s ad on the back cover? It’s solid black with the phrase “pitch black” in a very dark gray. Clearly, the big money is on Zildjian unveiling a series of black-coated cymbals, but the mystery is whether it will be a professional or budget line. Travis Barker recently appeared in Rhythm magazine with a set of black Zildjians…but that doesn’t necessarily mean the cymbals are designed for discriminating ears. Got any spy pics that will clear this up? Send ‘em posthaste to sfl@bigdrumthump.com.

Below is one purportedly legit shot.

Matt Sorum Pisses Off Scott Weiland…

March 25, 2008 | 1 Comment

But it really wasn’t that big of a deal, or at least it shouldn’t have been. Here’s the scoop, via Digg and Rolling Stone and MTV and probably a myriad other sources suppressed or forgotten.

Velvet Revolver played a gig in Glasgow last Thursday night. During the show, Scott Weiland says that the band’s current tour would be “the last tour by Velvet Revolver.” Sorum then posted this on his blog the next day (errant spelling, caps, and punctuation faithfully reproduced):

So last night was interesting. Had a little band turmoil on stage as you probably all could tell. Being in a band is a lot like being in a relationship. Sometimes you just don’t get along. I guess there has been more turmoil lately I guess with the cancellations and all….It has been frustrating I am not going to lie. My career and life in Rock n Roll has come with its ups and downs. Unfortunatly some people in this business don’t realize how great of a life they have. Touring the world, meeting great people and fans all over the world. And just playing music for a living. I feel truly blessed. But sometimes the road can be draining for some, being away from home and family does grind on you sometimes. With all the traveling and different beds. Personally I Love this Shit and sometimes can’t believe I am so lucky to still be doing what I do for a living….Everybody could see who was unhappy lastnight but all I can say is Let’s keep the Rock alive people!!!! In this life u just pick up and keep moving. And don’t ever let anybody stand in your way. The TRUTH Rock On!!!!!!

Now, this is not exactly a deep-seated, side-swiping, psychoanalytic dig at Weiland, whose overreaction seems to indicate it was all that and more. He says to the mighty Blabbermouth:

Well, first of all, the state of my family affairs is really none of [Sorum’s] business, since he is too immature to have a real relationship, let alone children. So don’t attempt to stand in a man’s shoes when you haven’t walked his path. Secondly, ‘keeping rock ‘n’ roll alive?’ I’ve made many attempts to remain cordial with the members of VR, but mainly, the likes of you. Funny though — this is your FIRST band, as opposed to being a hired gun. I’ve been making records (now on my ninth), which have sold over 35 million copies worldwide and have maintained a level of professionalism regardless of how many drugs I’ve ingested into my system. I have only cancelled one tour during the entire course of my 16-year run and that was the ‘make-up’ Australia tour. Now, shall I open that can of worms, Matthew? Release the Kraken? Serve… Volley! You cancelled the Aussie tour in the fall because you went to rehab, but I won’t say why… we’ll just let Blabbermouth find out for themselves.

Dudes, just knock it the fuck off. Velvet Revolver is a good band playing a particularly hard-to-fill brand of niche-y hard rock. Don’t make us start trolling the Internets for old Chinese Democracy tracks.

[Update: Alas, it appears Weiland’s run with VR is done. The band booted him out yesterday (4/1/08), and Weiland responded by essentially telling his former bandmates to pack sand up their ass. At least STP will be touring this summer.]

Metallica Rumors!

March 10, 2008 | Leave a Comment

We’ve just deleted all our Chinese Democracy posts to make room for the inevitable spate of rumors about Metallica’s upcoming album. First in, a doozy. According to FMQB, Lars recently spoke to BBC 6 Music and whipped out an actual month:

We’re just finishing up a record, we’ve got six weeks left and it should be out in September. That’s the idea right now.

We’re pretty sure all of us here at BDT can take the wait. September is in only…um…15,778,464 seconds, right?

Alien Ant Farm Reunion?

February 13, 2008 | Leave a Comment

AAF drummer Mike Cosgrove says it’s sorta, kinda true in this radio interview:

We actually might be playing some shows as the original unit come spring/summer…

Hmmm. Promising. But not enough for me to dust off my oompa loompa suit.
